🌍 Food for Life takes its research to an international stage
Asia-Pacific food security conference, Vancouver

Halton’s own Food for Life presented its research on food rescue as “climate and health infrastructure” at the APRU Food Security & Agritech Conference in Vancouver this week. The numbers are impressive: in 2025 the organization rescued more than 4.75 million pounds of food, 91% of the neighbours it serves say it’s had a positive impact on their health, and families save an average of $70 a week on groceries. It expects to move more than 6 million pounds of food in 2026. A nice reminder of what that Diwali food drive is supporting.

🎡 The Fall Fair’s 160-plus years on Robert Street
Milton Fairgrounds, 136 Robert St. · Since 1864

A harvest-season story for Thanksgiving: the first Halton county fair was held in October 1854 on Martin Street, with the horses shown right on Main Street. Ten years later, in 1864, the fair moved to the Robert Street grounds, and it has been there ever since, back when the U.S. Civil War was still being fought. The grandstand you see today dates to 1959. Next time you drive past the fairgrounds, you’re looking at more than 160 years of Milton harvest celebrations in one spot.
