🏒 Menace open the Governors Showcase with a win
Mon., Oct. 5: Menace 4, Stouffville 1 · Tue., Oct. 6, afternoon vs. Lindsay Muskies · Gale Centre, Niagara Falls
Great start in Niagara Falls. The Menace beat the Stouffville Spirit 4–1 on Monday, with goals from Bristol, Soares (on the power play), Cameron Lang and Nathan Catalano (shorthanded, into an empty net), while Austin McKillop turned aside 29 shots. That makes it 9–2 on the season and three wins in a row. This afternoon they close out the showcase against the Lindsay Muskies. If you’re down that way, a $20 day pass at the Main Rink gets you into the day’s showcase games, and kids under 12 get in free.

An easy, friendly way to start the day. Grace Anglican Church’s weekly walking group meets at the church at 8:30, or you can join them at the gazebo at 8:45, for a loop around the Mill Pond. Showers are possible Wednesday morning, so a light jacket is a good idea.

Since Saturday
🥩 Saying goodbye to The Meat Terminal
555 Main Street East · Final day Saturday, Oct. 3
A quiet end of an era on Main Street: The Meat Terminal, the family-run butcher operated by JVB Meats Inc., listed Saturday, Oct. 3, as its final day open on the shop’s own website, which is also no longer accepting orders. For more than 30 years the counter sourced most of its product from within about an hour and a half of Milton, and a lot of us will miss more than the steaks: the burgers, the brisket, and that Jamaican hot table that made a quick lunch feel like a treat. If you were a regular, it’s one of those small-town goodbyes that hits a little harder than you expect. Thank you for feeding Milton so well.

🖨️ Allegra Milton is under new local ownership
Announced Oct. 5 · 342 Bronte St.
Allegra Marketing Print Mail Milton has new local owners: entrepreneurs Brent Mayne and Zoltan-Shani Askenazi are taking over from founder Jan Anders, who built the shop from 1990 onward. The experienced team is largely staying put, and the Bronte Street location keeps offering custom print, marketing and direct mail for Milton businesses. It’s a nice continuity story for a shop that’s been part of the local fabric for decades.

🚚 Purolator’s Tackle Hunger
Porch pickup Saturday, Oct. 3
Local pride moment: Milton took part in Purolator’s Tackle Hunger Red Bag campaign again, with red donation bags dropped off around town Sept. 23 to 27 and picked up from porches on Saturday. Quiet community effort, big help for food-bank shelves. Thank you to everyone who left a bag on the step. Missed it? You can still fill a virtual Red Bag with an online donation to Food Banks Canada, or drop non-perishables at any Purolator Shipping Centre.

🏡 The stories behind McGinnis Crescent and McJannett Avenue
A fun bit of local history from Milton Now’s weekly Street Name Monday with historian John Challinor II. McGinnis Crescent is named for a man known for his work with the hospital and his volunteering, while McJannett Avenue honours a soldier many Miltonians will recognize from a famous First World War photo. The McJannett family also ran a grocery store in town, and the old lodge they belonged to still stands on Main Street, between Knox Presbyterian Church and Chudleigh’s Blossom Cafe. Worth a look next time you’re downtown.
