💧 20 years of the Water Festival

The Halton Children’s Water Festival just marked 20 years at Kelso. This month nearly 4,000 Grade 2 to 5 students explored 60 hands-on stations about water and nature, and more than 64,000 kids have taken part since 2006. The best part? It’s run with help from local high schoolers, more than 8,000 of them over the years, who volunteer their time to teach the younger kids.

Notable Miltonians

🏛️ George Brown, Milton’s first mayor

Before Milton had a name, George Brown was already part of its story. He opened the settlement’s first documented general store and ran its first post office from 1836, the year the community needed a formal name. That name, chosen in honour of the poet John Milton, was confirmed when the town incorporated in 1857, and Brown was chosen as its first mayor. His house still stands beside the Waldie Blacksmith Shop, so you can spot it next time you’re downtown.

That’s it for this week, Milton. Soak up the sunshine, enjoy the colours, and have a spooky-fun weekend!
