Overheard acts of Milton kindness
👛 A wallet, returned before it was missed
A couple out for a walk spotted a wallet lying on the sidewalk. They returned it to its owner, a dad living at a local retirement residence, themselves. The best part? He hadn’t even noticed it was gone yet.
💍 One parent, 22 playgrounds and a lot of rings
While their kid plays, one Milton parent sweeps the playground woodchips with a metal detector. Over the past year that’s meant about 80 sharp objects pulled out of roughly 22 Milton parks, before little hands could find them. Along the way they’ve found quite a few rings and would love to get them back to their owners. Lost a ring at a Milton playground? Reply to this email, if you are able to describe it and which park it went missing at, and we’ll put you in touch.
🥫 A food bank that fed 47 families on Thanksgiving Saturday
A volunteer-run community food bank in town handed out food packages to 47 families on Thanksgiving Saturday. This week it urgently needs 5 lb bags of white flour and cooking oil. If you can help, the donation bins at No Frills, 6520 Derry Rd. W., take donations anytime the store is open. Please make sure everything is new and unexpired.

🏘️ How Hugh Foster put his family on the map
Hugh, Sarah, Thomas and Mary Streets · Old Milton
Remember Hugh Foster, who donated the land for the old courthouse in our castle story last week? As a developer in early Milton, he also named several downtown streets after the people closest to him. Hugh Street is his own name, Sarah Street honours his second wife, Thomas Street is for his eldest son and Mary Street is for his daughter. So next time you’re heading down Mary Street to Town Hall, you’re walking through Hugh Foster’s family tree.
